Seven Reasons to Boycott the March of Dimes By Susan W. Enouen, P.E.
Although pro-lifers have been boycotting the March of Dimes since the 1970’s, the general public seems unaware of the boycott and continues to support MOD. To help educate more people on the facts, we have provided a list of seven good reasons for boycotting MOD:
1. Their emphasis on pre-natal diagnosis of birth defects, for which abortion is often the "treatment”
2. Their close ties to the eugenics movement
3. Their support of experimentation on live babies in the womb and on tissue from aborted babies
4. Their support of federally funded embryo-destructive stem cell research and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD)
5. Their dishonesty in ignoring the connection between prior abortions and premature birth
6. Their grants to Planned Parenthood
7. Their “neutral” stance on abortion, which accepts and encourages abortion by its silence
The March of Dimes is a well-known organization that arrays huge resources for the purpose of reducing the incidence of birth defects. MOD has improved the lives of many by striving to improve prenatal care and by providing treatment to children born with birth defects. This is what the public sees and supports, and it helps MOD to maintain a positive image as it organizes battalions of volunteers to raise money at the grass roots level. However, as our list indicates, there is a lot more going on behind this public face:
1. As part of their strategy, MOD strongly promotes pre-natal diagnosis and treatment. When birth defects are diagnosed prenatally and no medical cure is available, parents are forced to re-evaluate the pregnancy, often under the guidance of genetic counselors or doctors for whom “treatment” means abortion. In this way, MOD’s emphasis on pre-natal diagnosis purposefully guides people to consider aborting babies with birth defects.
How do we know this is purposeful? For one thing, MOD reveals their true intention in their Global Report on Birth Defects.1 In it they indicate a prevention strategy “to reduce the number of children born with birth defects.” They cite programs in various countries that use prenatal diagnosis in combination with “pregnancy termination.” These are noted as successes because they have reduced the incidence of children born with certain birth defects.2 Clearly, MOD considers the killing of afflicted pre-born children as a successful strategy in the battle against birth defects.
In this way, MOD allows and even encourages the systematic killing of an entire class of human beings that they claim to help: pre-born babies with birth defects or disabilities. This is eugenic abortion. The fundamental premise of eugenics, supported by people like Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, is that certain people should never be born, and any efforts to prevent these births are for the betterment of society and families. To Margaret Sanger, some classes of people were worthy of life and some were not.
2. In truth, MOD’s association and collaboration with nationally known eugenic abortionists began in the 1960’s, when these doctors were given positions on various Advisory Committees for Medical Services, Basic Research, Clinical Research and Basil O’Connor Starter Research Grants.3 Under such guidance, MOD established “genetic hygiene” or “genetic counseling” centers, later known by pro-lifers as “Screening to kill programs” or “Search and Destroy” operations.4 It was the birth of pre-natal diagnosis, and it meant death to many pre-born babies. “Defective” fetuses with Down syndrome or Tay Sachs, among others, were identified using amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS), and as of 1973, liberal abortion laws allowed the second and third trimester abortions of these affected babies. But it didn’t stop there.
3. MOD supported and funded research that most people would find reprehensible. In order to develop the procedures for amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling, doctors needed to practice their techniques. With MOD’s knowledge and financial support5, these doctors practiced their skills on live fetuses scheduled for abortion, so that any “mistakes” would not threaten a baby that was wanted by its mother. In essence, they used fetal experimentation on live babies in the womb in order to develop procedures that would then be used to justify the killing of other pre-born babies.
As if that were not enough, MOD has also funded research in which aborted baby parts were used for experimentation.6 Like abortion itself, the use of aborted baby parts for experimentation and the practicing of dangerous techniques on pre-born babies is a gross violations of the dignity of these tiny humans and has no place in a civilized society. And yet, these are the means that MOD is willing to employ in order to show progress in its fight against birth defects.
4. MOD’s support of federally-funded embryo-destructive stem cell research is a matter of public record.7 MOD also supports pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD),8 a technique that encourages eugenics by providing the means for rejecting embryos that have undesirable genetic traits. This technique is used in conjunction with in-vitro fertilization, where several embryos are created in the laboratory and then genetically tested prior to implantation. Those with traits such as Down syndrome or Tay Sachs are killed. Not only that, but because of a lack of regulation in this process, embryos can be selected based on sex, hair color and other physical traits, portending a frightening eugenics future.9
5. MOD’s newest battle lines have been drawn against premature birth. However, despite strong evidence10 that prior abortions are the third highest risk factor associated with premature birth, MOD completely ignores this connection. Their website11 listing of risk factors for premature birth does not even mention abortion. MOD’s exclusion of this vital information shows their dishonesty, and it unmasks their pretense of impartiality toward abortion. They are deliberately withholding information about abortion risks that women have a right to know.
6. In fact, MOD’s endorsement and promotion of the abortion industryis revealed by their contributions to Planned Parenthood.12 MOD’s justification is that the money does not go toward abortions, but in reality, such contributions free up other funds which Planned Parenthood can use for more lethal purposes. Whether or not the money pays for abortions, it supports an organization that is the country’s largest abortion provider, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of pre-born babies every day. MOD’s financial sponsorship of Planned Parenthood gives explicit approval to what that organization does, including abortions.
7. The reality of MOD’s neutral stance on abortion is this: by not opposing abortion, MOD implicitly accepts it as a viable option and has the freedom to allow abortions without publicly condoning them. Clearly, their acceptance of the abortion option lays the groundwork for their strategy.
In summary, while there is certainly some good work done by MOD, it is not an organization that values each and every life. Its associations with abortionists and the abortion industry, its support of procedures that allow and encourage eugenics, its dishonesty concerning abortion risks, and its lack of respect for the dignity of the pre-born child all make support for this organization objectionable from a pro-life point of view. This is why pro-lifers boycott MOD. This is why pro-lifers support organizations like The Michael Fund , whose mission is to help children with birth defects while respecting the dignity of every human being from conception until natural death.13

This girl was precious..(in HIS SIGHT!!). She said I could take her picture calling ICU MOBILE MEMPHIS! She was calling from the Planned Parenthood parking lot. She had an appt for a pregnancy test, and after she listened to what I had to say she did not even go in!!! She called and is going to ICU!
The following is a blog post from Live Action News in CA spotlighting part of The SIDEWALK NEVER ENDS article by Stefanie Lewallen
Changing the world, one person at a time
If you’ve ever wondered if you can make a difference in the pro-life movement, this is for you!
Working with the student and community distributors for The Advocate, Live Action‘s student publication, I have the privilege of seeing all sorts of stories come through my inbox.
The excerpt below is a powerful example of how powerful handing someone a copy of The Advocate can be. One person + one Advocate = lives changed.
Despite the fact that some people walk right past you… some people stop to talk to you and they really listen. I mean REALLY LISTEN.
In talking with some girls they have hugged my neck and said, “You are the first person who has given me hope.” Other times girls have never heard that there are places of ministry that offer free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests and …real help for the life of their baby.
There are girls whose boyfriends are forcing them to have an abortion and they need your strength to walk away. There are girls whose moms have brought them to get rid of their “mistake” … There are those who quietly take your resources and slip inside to resurface later and thank-you for being outside for them to show them the development of their baby and what an abortion really looks like. Sometimes a worker or volunteer who may just be doing paperwork and has never been in the room when the abortion is performed will proclaim, “Is this for real? I didn’t know this is what it looks like! This is awful!”
Many counselors who had exchanged numbers with a scared girl have often had the joy of getting a call from the hospital. They always go something like, “You many not remember me, but I just had my baby.” Of course, we always remember them and drive ourselves straight to the hospital to see that little bundle of joy, or “joys” as one counselor on my team got that exact call in regard to twins being born!
Along with the usual sidewalk counseling brochures and local numbers to call for help, I like to hand the young women and men a magazine called The Advocate published byLive Action, a youth led media and investigative group who expose the evil of the abortion industry.
I remember handing the magazine to a young male who told me that is was too late because his girlfriend was already inside. … I asked him to read the magazine anyway… I watched him flip through the pages in his car from the sidewalk. I watched him hold his head in his hands, and he let out a gut-wrenching sigh. … He held his head in his hand and kept saying, “This is me. I am that boyfriend who takes my girlfriend for more than one abortion.” He got out his cellphone and tried to call her and then sobbed that it was really too late. BUT…he said he would NOT be bringing her back. He also said IF ONLY YOU WERE HERE AN HOUR EARLIER! That statement really got me, because I am only one person, and as many people we have on our team it is often hard to cover and catch all the abortion hours at each mill.
What an impact it makes when we show up! … If only someone else was there an hour earlier that could have reached out to this young man and his girlfriend. The baby’s development was a surprise to him, as were the pictures of what an actual abortion looks like. Something they definitely do not show the girls inside.
That is why the sidewalk is so important, and that is why counselors keep endlessly going back…It is time for people to rise up out of their comfort zones and begin conversations with people you don’t know.
Stories like this, coming across my desk every day, let me know that the work we do is changing hearts and saving lives. TheNational 40 Days for Life prayer vigil is starting this week, and people are turning out across the country to pray for the mothers considering abortion. But the sidewalk is there year-round, and the men and women heading towards abortion clinics aren’t the only ones who need to know the truth about abortion. Our neighborhoods, our classrooms, even our churches are filled with people who just don’t know what is so very wrong with abortion.
Spreading the truth about abortion is not a job just for the “professionals” – it’s a task for everyone. Not sure how to start the conversation? That’s why Live Action publishes The Advocate: to give you a tool to educate yourself, and to start conversations in your communities.
One person + one Advocate = lives changed. The young man in the story found the truth too late to save his child. Don’t let your hesitancy to speak the truth be the reasons someone else finds out too late how terrible abortion really is. Empower yourself, use The Advocate to start conversations, and start changing the world, one person at a time.

This neat story appeared on day 7 on the national 40 DAYS FOR LIFE blog! Read below for what happened on the sidewalk! God is at work!
Stefanie in Memphis says their 40 Days for Life vigil got off to a great start – boosted by some visitors from Australia.
She said a man on a bus waved at the prayer volunteers – which isn’t unusual. But a few minutes later, she saw that same man and a companion approaching on foot.
“He said he knew as soon as he saw us,” she said, “that he and his traveling partner had to get off and come and pray with us. So they got off at the next bus stop and walked all the way back.”
Michael and his friend Terese are both from Australia and have taken part in 40 Days for Life at home. As the bus drove past Planned Parenthood, they saw the people praying outside.
“Within ten seconds, we said ‘let’s get off and join them,’” Michael told her. “It was the Holy Spirit.”
“You know sometimes people don’t appreciate the gift of life,” Terese said. When she saw the group praying, she said, “What a great job these people are doing. It’s hard work.”
Not long afterward, word reached the volunteers that a young mom had rejected abortion.
Stefanie said, “I stand in awe and in amazement of how God uses us on the sidewalk!”
These were my written thoughts and the "rest" of the story after that day on the sidewalk:
"I can't even explain in words how awesome our GOD IS!!! From two people from Australia who felt prompted to get off the MATA bus at the next stop and WALK BACK who ended up praying over this sweet mom, mother of five... as tears streamed down her face as I showed her everything I had in my possession until we could get her on the phone with Nelitza who is a Precious in His Sight counselor and ICU MOBILE employee. It was a miracle how we communicated because she does not speak English! I thought when she told me NO MAS that she meant no more baby, and now she is going to ICU APPT!!! Please keep praying b/c it is a dire situation she is in! Through her tears she did manage a burst of laughter at my HORRIBLE SPANISH! We sat on opposite sides of an iron fence while at one point I had to sit down in my chair because my left side still hurts from surgery, but I sat there as another counselor handed over her cell phone. Nelitza ministered to her on Libby's cell phone right there in the Planned Parenthood parking lot! Thank God Libby had Nellie's number bc my phone had erased ALL CONTACTS! I was in a panic. She stayed with me when I showed her my pictures. She was so upset when she saw what abortion looks like. I was able to give her a spanish pamphlet with stories that ended up having one that pertains to her! I could not understand my call to the sidewalk on this day.... I thought it was too late to catch anyone from abortion since it was not even an abortion day, but boy was I WRONG! Totally wrong as this happened right after 6 PM. Also.. one girl who allowed me to videotape her as she exposed the high prices they were charging her inside..$120 for one test. She won't be going back, and has even agreed to pass out information I gave her to University of Memphis students. I am thanking GOD he got me there today and worked out all these details from opposite sides of a fence.... so much more I could write.... thankful for those faithful to show up and praying more will be bold reaching out to these women!!.."
UPDATE!!! This mother went to ICU MOBILE MEMPHIS and is 9 weeks along! Keep her in your prayers!
Deciphering PINK! YOUR CALLS AND ACTIONS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
It is that time of year again. Pro-Lifers know the task ahead when seeing the color pink. It’s not the color pink or the fundraising on behalf of loved ones who have suffered from cancer or have lost the battle. It’s the task of deciphering who is using the color to raise money in the name of breast cancer research who are actually turning around and donating to Planned Parenthood, who is America’s number one abortion provider. In most cases of seeing pink, we have to decline the donation and explain why. In fact, a new organization is on the rise and not many people realize that it actually IS Planned Parenthood.
One such organization we have known about is Susan G. Komen. Although every year there are still those that learn the connection for the first time. Since the inception of this non-profit, many well meaning Christians have associated themselves with it. Many upon learning the connection drop out and look for other organizations to support their loved ones. Some do not care about the connection, and some do not want to know because if they knew they would have to do something about it. Many will say, ‘We can’t fight everything’. While that may be true, we can surely cut off fundraising for any organization whose main business is murdering our unborn brothers and sisters.
Let me walk you through some helpful information and a short review of a book called “Planned Bullyhood” written by Karen Handel who was Komen’s former senior vice president of public policy. She was caught up in a media firestorm, and reached her own decision to resign so she could tell the truth behind Susan G Komen and the lies most have believed.
When Handel came on board with Susan G Komen, she was assigned the task of looking into options of disengaging from the Planned Parenthood grants. As it turns out, they had been considering whether to defund Planned Parenthood for a decade! That is ten years that they admit was very hard to handle. Why? Because of the pressure and boycotts from pro-life conservatives. Handel admits that the backlash they had been receiving did make a difference, especially when Planned Parenthood was caught in a sex trafficking scandal and became the center of public attention. The evidence was so compelling that even liberal news media outlets began to do a “little” bit of reporting on the undercover stings. No one wanted part of the controversy and even corporate sponsors where backing out. In her book she states that “Komen’s local affiliates were frustrated, and their fundraising was being affected”.
Thinking that your calls and emails don’t make a difference? Think again. Handel goes on to say that because of calls and backlash that senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) withdrew as honorary co-chairman of a Komen event after a call from his bishop, and the cute little pink Bible that benefited Komen was recalled from LifeWay Christian Resources.
Despite the fact that Nancy Brinker, founder of Komen had served on the board of Planned Parenthood, she was on board with the decision to disassociate with the Planned Parenthood grants. It seems that everyone knew about this decision to go neutral in the pro-life/pro-abortion debate, and they even had an agreement with Planned Parenthood to not proactively go to the press or ambush one another. Planned Parenthood broke that agreement and Handel soon realized that it had been pre-meditated. She found herself in a firestorm that she didn’t want to be a part of.
Handel said that what she really learned about Planned Parenthood through this scandal is that “Planned Parenthood and its allies are the worst kind of bullies. They were willing to do almost anything to advance their political agenda and ensure the continued flow of $1.5 million dollars a day in government money to Planned Parenthood coffers.”
Komen was not taking a pro-life stance, but just wanted to stay “neutral”. She realized that that the $680,000 was not going to affect the work of Planned Parenthood, and relinquishing grant money would allow them to forego all the time spent on the backlash of complaints against Susan G. Komen on the corporate and affiliate level.
The grants were referred to as “crappy” without any measurable outcomes. Planned Parenthood DOES NOT even provide mammograms as they falsely claim. Not only that, but Handel explains in her book that even some of the grant money was in fact approved to PAY FOR PLANNED PARENTHOOD employee SALARIES!
In response to the Susan G Komen fiasco Planned Parenthood then decided to launch it’s own campaign called LIVING BEYOND BREAST CANCER, which is now making it’s rounds on social media sites and IS the abortion giant. Most breast cancer supporters do not realize that this is an initiative as an attempt to bring in more money because of loss of support.
It’s that time of year when we see the Komen pink, or hear of LIVING BEYOND BREAST CANCER, we must speak out and look for organizations that may be partnering with Planned Parenthood in the name of breast cancer, or actually be Planned Parenthood themselves. We must find alternatives, and we must let others know that ALL affiliates of Susan G. Komen are required to send corporate twenty-five percent of their money raised.
While it was disappointing that the intention of Susan G Komen was to remain neutral, PLANNED BULLYHOOD is a good read with informative information on the inner working liberal agenda (Christians would find it offensive that the office peeps refer to us as “fundies”) of Komen and Planned Parenthood’s connections to Obama and Obamacare.
In Handel’s own words, “The truth can be uncomfortable, and even hurtful, but that is no reason to avoid telling it.”

THE SIDEWALK NEVER ENDS.......
The talk about sidewalks usually conjure up childhood memories of trekking down out of the garage or front door with your bucket of sidewalk chalk and other fun things you intended to play with to pass a fun summer day. Sadly, it is on the sidewalk in most cities where pro-life activists find themselves revisiting a favorite play spot to insure and help plead for our future children, our future sidewalk chalkers and lemonade stand entrepreneurs of America. You see, contrary to a favorite childhood book by Shel Silverstein, the sidewalk really doesn’t end.
I remember after sitting through a training session several years ago for a sidewalk counseling group that I was shocked and dismayed about everything I learned. For the first time, I heard how the abortion industry really works from the voices of real abortion providers turned pro-life. I saw what the abortion mills in our city looked like, learned how I pass them all the time on my way to fun events and outings, and I heard testimonies and stories of the struggle for life on the sidewalk.
I knew from the time someone stood up and told of this neat ministry of sidewalk counseling that it was something that I could do! I was sure in my heart that I was meant to talk to girls entering a building about to end the life of their baby. If they knew what I did, they just might give it a second thought. Although it took me awhile to act on the clear direction I had heard, God worked on me until the timing was right.
Just like most people and even Christians who want to do something about abortion, I had heard stories from the media about dangerous situations on the sidewalk. That was all I had known about the mills, and until I sat through the actual training and learned otherwise, it is easy to see why some people drag their feet. That lie, and other lies we are fed by mainstream media are what keep us from doing what needs to be done.
After showing up that first day on the sidewalk, and having a more experienced counselor and now dear friend let me shadow her for awhile, I began to watch even something more amazing happen. Despite the fact that some people walk right past you, or pretend to be talking on their cell phones, some people stopped to talk to you and they really listened. I mean REALLY LISTENED. They are hurting, they really don’t want to this, but they see no other way out.
That is where you and I come in. We have the information they need, and they won’t be getting it from anyone else. If we were not there to give it to them, they simply would proceed to end the life of their baby. They are looking for hope in what feels like a hopeless situation.
In talking with some girls they have hugged my neck and said, “You are the first person who has given me hope.” Other times girls have never heard that there are places of ministry that offer free ultrasounds and pregnancy tests and they will agree to go with you for real help for the life of their baby. I have watched a girl take out her cell phone and call for an appointment herself at a prolife pregnancy center right from the front steps of the abortion mill dialing the number off a flyer I handed her through the fence. If I had not been there to give her that number or information she would have seen her abortion appointment through.
Inside the mills they tell the girls to ignore us because we are protestors, but yet they fail to treat the girls with dignity and respect because they are an easy $450 or more depending on how far along each girl is in her pregnancy.
The sidewalk is never fun and never something anyone just gets up all excited to go and do. It is something that must be done, and people need to know that their presence does and can make a difference when it comes to saving the lives of babies. Thinking about coming out to the sidewalk? Know that when you show up, God uses your presence for His glory and lives CAN be saved. Although there is such tragedy and sadness, there is also light that only you can and must bring with you.
You will see all sorts of situations on the sidewalk. There are girls whose boyfriends are forcing them to have an abortion and they need your strength to walk away. There are girls whose moms have brought them to get rid of their “mistake” who both need to hear from others who have been through the same thing so they will walk away with the next generation under their heart. There are those who quietly take your resources and slip inside to resurface later and thank-you for being outside for them to show them the development of their baby and what an abortion really looks like. Sometimes a worker or volunteer who may just be doing paperwork and has never been in the room when the abortion is performed will proclaim, “Is this for real? I didn’t know this is what it looks like! This is awful!”.
Of course, there are always those who are hostile and see you as a protestor, but those just can’t keep us away. We have so many who thank us and tell us if we had not been there, they would have aborted their child. We also stand there for those who don’t talk us, and we might not ever know if we helped that mom make the decision to have her baby. We can guess that those numbers are pretty high, though, because many counselors who had exchanged numbers with a scared girl have often had the joy of getting a call from the hospital. They always go something like, “You many not remember me, but I just had my baby.” Of course, we always remember them and drive ourselves straight to the hospital to see that little bundle of joy, or “joys” as one counselor on my team got that exact call in regard to twins being born!
Persistence, perseverance and the love for life are what keeps us going on our life saving mission. I can remember one really young girl in particular who was walking out of Planned Parenthood during a 40 Days for Life campaign, and before I could even open my mouth she sarcastically yelled to me, “I don’t know why you are out here, you don’t even understand my situation.” I just smiled at her and told her she was right. I did not know her situation, but that I would love to hear more. She then smugly stated it didn’t matter because she was only two weeks pregnant. I told her I would love to talk to her and explained to her that her baby had a distinct DNA all of his or her own. She looked a little dumbfounded that her bad attitude had not turned me off, but I just kept smiling at her. By this time she had entered her car and was glaring over at her friend in the passenger side seat as if to say ‘can you believe this girl’? She rolled her window down and kept listening to me describe the development of her baby. Then, she actually got out of her, came over to me on the sidewalk and took every bit of information I had in my hand. That is just one of many stories I could share that demonstrate a change of heart.
Along with the usual sidewalk counseling brochures and local numbers to call for help, I like to hand the young women and men a magazine called THE ADVOCATE published by LIVE ACTION, a youth led media and investigative group who expose the evil of the abortion industry.
I remember handing the magazine to a young African American male who told me that it was too late because his girlfriend was already inside. I had called out to him in his car my usual, “Hey, can I talk to you for a second?” because I feel it is just as important to reach the men there as it is the girls. I asked him to read the magazine anyway, so he got out of his car, came and took it from me and casually went back to his car to sit down. I watched him flip through the pages in his car from the sidewalk. I watched him hold his head in his hands, and he let out a gut-wrenching sigh. As he read an article pertaining to a woman talking about her boyfriend bringing her back to the abortion mill for repeat abortions, he held his head in his hand and kept saying, "This is me. I am that boyfriend who takes my girlfriend for more than one abortion." He got out his cellphone and tried to call her and then sobbed that it was really too late. BUT...he said he would NOT be bringing her back. He also said, "IF ONLY YOU WERE HERE AN HOUR EARLIER"! That statement really got me, because I am only one person, and as many people we have on our team it is often hard to cover and catch all the abortion hours at each mill.
What an impact it makes when we show up! If only more people would cover these sidewalks! If only someone else was there an hour earlier that could have reached out to this young man and his girlfriend. The baby’s development was a surprise to him as were the pictures of what an actual abortion looks like. Something they definitely do not show the girls inside.
That is why the sidewalk is so important, and that is why counselors keep endlessly going back. Once you get out of your comfort zone you begin to impact not only the sidewalk, but also the culture around you where you live, work or go to school. While many are hostile to us and portray us as the enemy, we know our true mission and purpose and that is to save as many lives as we can because we care for our fellow brothers and sisters born and unborn. It is time for people to rise up out of their comfort zones and begin conversations with people you don’t know, because that person you don’t know will love you for answering the call.
The sidewalk will not end until abortion does.

Life Action Plan
Life Phone Chain
It began with a text from my
friend Anne, who works for American Family Radio and is a spokesperson/coordinator for Surrendering the Secret, a national abortion recovery
group. Anne is located in Tupelo, MS., and she was seeking pregnancy crisis care on behalf of her friend Michelle who was in turn seeking help for her friend Julie.
Anne had given my phone number to
Michelle, and she let me know to be looking out for her call. I was out of town
in North Carolina attending a party with my cousin Jennifer. I ducked out of the party and took the call in the dining room. I felt helpless being so far away, but realized that even though I was not there I could instruct on what steps to take and where to go for help.
Michelle, who is also out of Tupelo, had called on behalf of her dear friend Julie who is a nursing instructor out of Martin, Tn. Julie had received a phone call for advice from a former nursing student who had found herself in an unplanned pregnancy in Memphis.
Though many miles covered this life
phone chain, we were able to map out an action plan. Julie called and made an important life saving appointment for her friend.
The next day she drove five hours to pick up her former nursing school student and accompanied her onto the ICU (IMAGE CLEAR ULTRASOUND) mobile in Memphis,
Tn. ICU is the largest and growing “National Fleet for Tiny Feet” run locally by the Pregnancy Help Medical Center Confidential Care for Women. After receiving counseling on the unit, this mom chose LIFE! Mom and dad heard the
sweet heartbeat for the first time and fell in love.
Julie spent the day with her young mom friend, and drove back home covering many miles all in one day.
There were also some bumps in the
road as this baby girl would soon be discovered to be born with her intestines outside of her body. Mom was given the horrifying
news that the baby may be “stillborn”, or if she was born alive she may have lifelong problems. Mom bravely decided
to keep her plan to carry to term despite the negative prognosis and pressure to abort.
“I just feel like this baby has survived so much already that she will do great things,” Julie commented.
baby girl is here a little early! Mom and baby are doing great and need your prayers for a successful surgery to place the intestines back where they belong! She is truly a miracle baby, and God has His hand on her life.
Michelle and Julie who have been longtime friends, but separated through the miles came together on behalf of this baby. “To God be the glory”, said Michelle. “I am confident that God saved this baby for a reason.”

University of Memphis teams up with Abortion Industry
“Why are we still having this conversation?” said Rosalyn R.
Nichols, one of five participating panelists at a pro-choice event marking Roe V Wade on the University of Memphis Campus.
She stated that she was on this panel as were the others for
continually being prosecuted for their beliefs. The comment brought laughter and cheers, but the actual program succeeded to show several contradictions in many places and a plethora of crude comments in place of logical arguments.
The gathering took place in the University Center Theater in
the middle of The University of Memphis campus and students said they saw people coming and going, but did not understand what was going on right in the middle of their campus. They voiced their surprise that their campus would host such a pro-abortion gathering.
“Religion, Law and Reproductive Rights: the 40th Anniversary of Roe V. Wade" was sponsored by the The University of Memphis Center for Research on Women (CROW for short) and two area abortion clinics, Choices and Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region. The same three sponsors of Memphis Teen Vision, a local group that claims they are working towards keeping teen pregnancy rates down, but is actually sponsored by pro-abortion funds and grants from NARAL.
“I saw people gathered in the UC, but had no idea something like that would be taking place here,” said one unidentified student the next day.
“It was very dissapointing to me,” said University of Memphis junior Andrea Schooley. “But I knew it would happen eventually because college students seem to be more liberally minded than conservative. I've been hearing about a lot of campuses pushing the liberal agenda, so I just figured it would happen eventually. Although, I would not have even known it was happening if a friend had not invited me. It makes me wonder how much students on campus or others are really pushing this, and if I'm missing a lot.”
Schooley, who is studying Engineering Technology, said that finding out about this event on campus strengthened her resolve to have a pro-life event that has at least as many attending with a lot of information for people to consider. She left the event thinking “what about the baby? They never once discussed the baby, and they ignored what happens to the baby.”
The location of the event raises questions as to how
many events like this are allowed on public university campuses, and if donors realize where their funds are going when they support their local college campus. Chances are many are donating to one
on campus, such as the popular athletics department, and in turn they will make a donation and sponsor a pro-abortion event. Donors trust the use of funds, when they are actually put to use in places they would never suspect.
Key words to look for in finding out which groups are
abortions rights groups are “research for women” and any group promoting “social equality of women” such as CROW and its affiliation
with Girls, INC. which is an unapologetic pro-abortion group under which the "NO BABY" campaign was formed. What is scary is the fact that while CROW is a pro-abortion group on the University Campus, they are also commissioned by other groups for research for the city of Memphis to “streamline” services in the community through the The Shelby County Office of Early Childhood while thanking the abortion rights group National Institute for
Reproductive Health for the seed money.
Surprising even more is the list of donors and
sponsors for the University event and CROW. While the event included the likes of Choices, Memphis Center for Reproductive Health, Planned
Parenthood Greater Memphis Region, the CROW annual report gives special thanks to Kemmons Wilson Companies, whose name can be recognized as the founder of Holiday Inn, Baptist Memorial Hospital, and the University of Memphis Athletics Department and more.
(See full lists at bottom of article soon to be posted!)
Crow works closely with Choices and Planned Parenthood, hence the three way sponsorship of this campus event and viewing of the new movie “From Danger to Dignity: The Fight for Safe Abortion”. The Pro-Abortion program even thanks the University of Memphis Department of Communications, Public Relations and Marking for the design and work on the event and promotional materials. It appears that the University has put forth one big effort to support this pro-abortion event.
Kathy Worthy, board member of Precious in His Sight sidewalk counseling group in Memphis, Tn. was surprised to find out about the event on campus along with the long list of supporters and churches on the University of Memphis webpage. She had planned to attend one of the supporting sponsor churches at an event the next weekend, but after viewing the supporters of the event she changed her mind. She posted the event on her facebook page hoping other Memphians would read the list of supporters and take action.
“Read this and be as shocked as I am,” her post read. “I was going to Idlewild Presbyterian Church this Friday night but not now.”
Licensed social worker and family therapist, Betsy Maddel- Carley, who was a participant in the orginal Texas hearings that brought Roe V. Wade to light, introduced the film and stated that her side of the fence was always portrayed as having a “flippant” attitude towards abortion and those women may have always been desperate and determined, but never “flippant." She said this movie was important so that they understand where they have come from and never go back.
It sounded like a baby in the womb’s dream to “go back there”. A time when workers were not allowed to mention the word abortion because it was illegal and birth control could not be offered to anyone underage. Some that hide under the “abortion is wrong for me, but I would never tell someone else what to do” do not realize that women fall prey to the abortion industry as they are deprived important information on the development of their baby and they have an abortion quota to meet.
The film highlighted the plight of women seeking illegal
abortions because of “unwanted” pregnancies, and early abortion rights activists who relied heavily on many clergy men and women who had sought illegal abortions themselves. Many women
with botched abortions would end up in the hospital being treated by the same doctor who “denied” them an abortion. “Legal” and “safe” was the goal. Although it is now legal, a Memphis OBGYN who would like to remain anonymous says that many women with abortion complications come through his clinic on a regular basis. “I see them all the time,” he said.
Also on the panel was Dr. Owen Phillips, M.D., Associate Dean for Student Affairs
at the University of Tennessee Health
Science Center. She is also a faculty member in Obstetrics and Gynecology and serves as Assistant Residency Program Director. After viewing the film dealing with “unwanted” pregnancies she proclaimed, “Not one of us is pro-abortion. I am pro-woman’s rights”. Contradictory to her proclamation is the fact that she
is a former medical director for the abortion clinic “CHOICES” out of Memphis,TN. She also sits on the leadership of numerous healthcare organizations.
The program highlighted the issue of unwanted pregnancies, and the need for accessibility to get rid
of them. “Problem pregnancies are a problem,” Mandel-Carley had stated in the beginning of the program. This explains the 56 million plus babies aborted since Roe V. Wade. Abortion has been and will
continue to be the answer to an
unwanted pregnancy until women realize they are being used by the abortion industry for profit. It becomes a vicious cycle of birth control for those caught in a bad place, not the perfect timing according to them, and some girls are seen with angry men forcing them going through with an abortion or risk being abandoned by their significant other. Once inside such a place that will
take money to kill your child, they are not going to give you real options because that would take money out of their pockets.
David Kupelian in his book The Marketing of Evil outlines how
the “abortion rights” movement was one of the most successful marketing campaigns. One of the men involved with coming up with the catchy phrases such as “freedom of choice” and “women must have control over their own bodies” was Bernard Nathanson, M.D who was a co-founder of NARAL, short for National
Abortion and Reproductive Rights.
Kupelian documents that Nathanson remembers them laughing that
woman would buy into this line of logic. Nathanson also admitted to lying to the media about the numbers of women dying from botched abortions each year. He realized later, as he went from pro-abortion after the invention of the ultrasound machine and passed away on the pro-life side of the fence, that abortion was being used as a means of birth control as the numbers performed grew
annually. He is also known for his film of abortion titled The Silent Scream which shows abortion as the terrifying event it is for the baby.
While many pastors and clergy for choice were interviewed
throughout the film as pioneers of abortion rights activists, one of the panel questions included “what should we do to fight conservatives in the South and how do you deal with this in the faith based community?” Religion is okay as long as it supports abortion rights. Nichols, the only faith-based panel member
was tossed this question and struggled with her answer even interjecting a thought later in the discussion after the question had been answered. She even became so confused she cut herself and her faith-based community down “the faith community has lost moral integrity,” she stated.
When asked exactly what kind of training for abortions do
doctors receive, Dr. Phillips specified that all residents in her program are required to be trained in abortion services. “Residents are given training and learn how to perform abortions. Residents can opt out of performing, but not on the other pre-requisites such as care, training and counseling.” Those trained to sustain the lives of babies are also required to learn how to snuff the life out of the womb.
“There are always those looking to chip away at reproductive rights
such as Tennessee Right to Life,” she chipped in later referring to the upcoming Senate Joint Resolution 127 measure that will be on the 2014 ballot. She stated that she had made a trip to Nashville to try and “help those yahoos construct.” Brian Faughnan, a once conservative turned liberal lawyer in Memphis claims the SJR 127 amendment in Tennessee is “pitched as something not to be really concerned about” but then later on admits that this will lay the groundwork for eroding reproductive rights on the federal level.
Beverly Marrero, former Democrat member of the Tennessee State
Senate, stated that there is no need to alter the constitution. She commented that “people who are trying to fix it are not intellectually able. We do not have great people with great standards in our legislature.” Marrero was defeated in 2012.
Lynn Zent, President of Shelby County Right to Life, a local
chapter of Tennessee Right to Life in the area where this event took place, says that SJR 127 is for a very good reason. “This amendment will protect women and hold these clinics to the standard that any other medical facility would have. It will allow them to make informed decisions with proper counseling and adequate time to think about their life changing decisions," commented Zent. “Abortion doesn’t just affect women, but rather affects their whole family in many ways.”
Zent also understands the importance of this amendment from experience as a post-abortive mother, and how she felt victimized by the abortion industry. She even has her orginal paperwork from Planned Parenthood, and it shows that they doctored her original paperwork to show she had someone with her, when in fact she did not. She is not the first to notice facts on Planned Parenthood paperwork are incorrect.
Faughan also continued to cut down women with his comments such as “If men were the ones who got pregnant we would never
be in this position”. He claims abortion rights would always have been available and compared him being able to obtain a
vasectomy to the right women should have to be able to have an abortion. According to him “once the load has been thrown from us” men have lost their rights when it comes to a say in the abortion decision.
Men who have lost children to abortion would disagree with him. Lost fatherhood has become a serious issue causing many men depression and loss. Support groups exist for women and men who are suffering from abortion such as Silent No More because fathers regret lost fatherhood, too.
Perhaps the most disturbing question of the night was “How can we move towards normalizing the termination of pregnancies”?
The panel recognized that clinics are easy to prosecute and that they need to move towards “taking care of women” implying what pro-lifers already know- that abortion clinics can be a dangerous place. Hospitals were accused of not fighting the good fight with them. “Baptist and St. Frances are not in the fight, but Methodist Hospitals fight for abortions," commented Phillips.
The killing agenda spawned by CROW and the two area clinics passed out pro-abortion literature, bumper stickers and offered a
bowl of flavored condoms to guests. They used this event and the university to get the word about their services onto a college campus where statistics show that no doubt many girls will suffer a crisis pregnancy and look for somewhere to turn. Many girls who enter Planned Parenthood are not allowed to look at their ultrasound and meet their baby. They fall victim to an abortion quota each location must meet.
“If a baby could talk it would end,” said Worthy. “They would
yell ‘I have reproductive rights too!’.”
This is the list only of the pro-abortion event supporters. There is also an annual report for "CROW" that is separate from this event and will post those separately or you can check out the website for more information or to request an annual report.
NEED HELP RECOVERING AFTER AN ABORTION? YOU ARE NOT ALONE. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING FROM A POST ABORTIVE MOTHER SEEKING HEALING.
“I'm not sure what if anything would've changed my mind at the time of my abortions.
Well, at my last one, I was just waiting for my husband to say let's have it (the baby); but he never did. I never really thought about crisis pregnancy centers, not sure if I even realized that they existed. So maybe getting the word out about crises pregnancy centers, what they do and what that means would be part of the answer.
I think a woman who calls a crises center (intentionally), already has it in the back of her mind that she should have her baby. Women who are heading to the abortion clinic already have it in their heads to end the pregnancy.
That's why I am a big believer in sidewalk counseling. I like to think that if there were a counselor who talked to me and showed me what God's Word said, I would have changed my mind. Afterall, I was a Christian. Maybe if I had a friend (and several of my friends knew I was in trouble at the time of my 1st abortion), that talked to me about God's perspective, it would have helped. I'll never know.
I think there ought to be specific pro-life training in church youth and college groups that talk about God's perspective on life, why abortion isn't His plan, and what to do if you, your girlfriend or a friend becomes pregnant. I think that would be one of the most effective things we could do as the body of Christ is to educate our young people in this area. All I knew is that the church said it is wrong. Society told me otherwise. They told me that abortion was totally legal and "medically safe". So it is a matter of God's standard verses man's standard.
So if I can't reach a woman with God's standard because she isn't a believer, I would like her to know the side of abortion that no one else will tell her about. That this decision my feel ok for a time, but as you get older and realize that life isn't all about yourself, that you are going to realize that you destroyed a life simply for your own convenience. Then you will have to come to terms with the type of person you are to have done that, and will always wonder what that life you let go of, would have been like and what great things you destroyed on that day. The fear and turmoil of the crisis pregnancy will pass. You will have your child and be blessed by that life. A woman who has an abortion always feels regret and shame. She will spend much of her life trying to overcome those feelings. Those who don't find Christ, never overcome them. I think Deuteronomy 30:19 sums it up best " I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."
Abortion is a choice, it's just the wrong one.”

Merry Christmas from The Write Talk!
Baby Jesus was a special baby, sent to this earth to pay the debt for all of our sins! The Good News is that HE was born in a lowly manger, died on a cross and rose again on the third day. Our God is not dead, but alive. He can live in us through the Holy Spirit if we only ask him to come into our hearts.
I remember when I first heard how much my creator loved me! To think that he loved me so much that he sent his only son, and that I too could have a relationship with HIM. It excited me so much to hear how much he loved me and wanted me to know HIM, and once I asked him into my heart the personal relationship has continued to grow. My Christmas wish is that All could know Him as I do, and experience the JOY and HOPE that only this little King Lord Jesus can give.
What an amazing thought that the journey we had as a baby in the womb is exactly the same journey that our precious Lord and Savior went through himself.
“This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 1:18
God loved us so much that He sent his only son to live on this earth and die on the cross for us to take away our sins. What a gift! I am so imperfect and still stumble in my daily walk, but the comfort and joy of my eternal salvation is due to God coming down as a BABY to save me. Can you see the potential this baby held from the moment of conception in HIS mother Mary's womb? From the time he was conceived until the time he announced “It is finished” on the cross as He died in our place for our sins, God had his entire life as a human mapped out.
“Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, "I am thirsty. A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.” John 19:28-30
This “New King” was of great importance, so much so that Herod the King was jealous, and he set out to slaughter all baby boys under the age of two in Bethlehem and the surrounding vicinity. Joseph had taken Mary and fled to Egypt and remained there until Herod died.
Herod was not a man after God’s heart and sought to destroy life, just as today we watch life being destroyed through our modern day slaughter abortion. It has taken hold in our society and people have become numb to the daily death of many babies. As children of our creator, the destroyer of LIFE seeks ways to eliminate life any way possible.
As God had the life of Jesus mapped out from the beginning in the womb, so HE has our lives in his hands also. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
The thief is Satan, and we cannot sit back and watch him lead hurting women, men, babies and even the workers into places of death and destruction. There are so many different personal situations and variables in the conversations that happen on the sidewalk, but one thing I noticed has remained fairly constant in our local area. Many people have not understood the development of the baby and what really will happen to the baby during an abortion. Many lives have been spared because normal people like me and you have stepped out on a limb and reached out to people we don’t even know to help them understand that they are about to actually take a human life and not just suck out a blob of tissue. Who doesn’t need a new friend at such a dark moment?
Workers themselves have been fooled by the industry, as some may work in the next room doing the paperwork or drawing the blood and are not actually in the abortion procedure room. One worker has commented to us “that is not what it looks like.” Even those inside the building are fooled.
Outside the abortion clinics there is a sea of darkness and indecision, and definitely not JOY. It is hanging on the sidewalks and over the properties like a smug fog. You can feel it even though you cannot see it. The JOY of the Good News to these women and the importance of their babies lives wipes away the darkness as many women choose life. Every life is a valued LIFE.
Thank-you God for baby Jesus, and the special blessings that a baby can hold.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
40 DAYS FOR LIFE is going on in the Memphis area and around the globe and is continuing through November 4rth. Even if you are not in the Memphis area, I encourage you to look up and see if there is a 40 DAYS FOR LIFE near you! It is a prayerful, peaceful vigil where people gather on the sidewalks outside abortion clinics to pray to end abortion.
If you have never been part of such a life saving mission outside an abortion clinic, now is the time to jump in. What started out as a small prayer time around a small wooden table has been blessed by God and has grown into a huge effort with thousands of people working and praying together at the same time to help save lives. Prayer around that small wooden table dropped the local abortion rate by 28%, so just think what is going to continue to happen as people realize the importance of this life saving mission! Over 24 clinics have closed and 69 workers have left the industry so far! There is power in prayer and there is power in being a public witness for Christ. Just this past Spring alone 40 DAYS saw 30,000 new participants!! 5, 928 babies lives have been saved, and so far this fall campaign we know of 140 babies spared from abortion. I am not a numbers person, but these numbers really excite me to read! Every life saved is a special unique person, and many families are spared the heartbreak of abortion.
If no one was there on the sidewalks, we would not be able to celebrate these lives. When people arrive at an abortion clinic for an abortion appointment they are hurting, and they need YOU! NEVER underestimate the calling to be on the sidewalk!! It can literally mean the difference between life and death and what better place to share the gospel of Jesus? It is life saving in many ways. Many times people on the sidewalk are approached and told how their presence made a difference in their lives and I want to share with you the following story written by Memphis participant Melissa Ann and taken off the 40 DAYS FOR LIFE Memphis facebook page.
"Today a man walked up to me while I was standing out in front of Planned Parenthood. He said that it was people like us standing out there praying and holding signs that stopped him from aborting his baby girl 27 years ago. He said he had already paid for the procedure and was fixing to walk in, and he saw some people standing outside the building with signs. He said he knew it was God telling him not to do it. It was wrong.
He said he left and never had it done. He also said that he was worried about how hard it was going to be to keep the baby. He was concerned with finances and other things, but he told me that it never was hard. That God made a way for him.
He seemed very thankful, but more so he was wanting us to know that if we are ever feeling discouraged by negative feedback or thinking that we stand and pray out there in vain sometimes... not to feel that way cause he, himself is witness that it DOES make a difference and it DOES save lives whether people walk up to you and tell you or not.
Anyways, I thought I would let you all know about something positive that happened on the corner out there. God Bless!"
Won’t you be that life saving presence? If you can spare an hour to stop by the sidewalk during this campaign please come to 2430 Poplar Avenue between the hours of 6A.M. and 5 P.M. Please check out the national website at www.40daysforlife.com and the Memphis local website at www.40daysforlife.com/memphis where you can sign a statement of peace and sign up on the vigil calendar.
Hope to see you on the sidewalk!!
***40 DAYS FOR LIFE will continually have a presence for 40 days each Spring and Fall. Many participants also counsel all year long with Precious in His Sight sidewalk counseling ministry.***
